Young RYLA

Welcome to Iowa Young RYLA (Rotary District 5970-Northern Iowa)!

Young RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), also referred to as YRYLA is a life-changing leadership training program for youth where leadership skills and principles are taught in an atmosphere of trust and respect.  The purpose of Young RYLA is to assist potential youth leaders in methods of responsible and effective leadership.  A subtext of Young RYLA programs is the development of confidence and self esteem.  Many participants have said, “It was the best week of my life!”

Student registration will open February 1, 2018

YRYLA Application (7th & 8th Graders)

Registration closes April 30, 2018.

Rotary clubs sponsor students to participate in this 6-day leadership camp for seventh and eighth graders.   


Young RYLA (YRYLA) will be held July 22-27, 2018 at Grinnell College.

Current 7th and 8th graders may apply.  Generally, applicants selected have been involved in school or community activities and shown leadership potential.  Applicants must be able to stay for all 6 days of the conference.  Click on the About YRYLA page to begin the application process.

From I-80
– North on HWY 146
– Right on 4thAve
– Left on East Street
– Left on 10thAve
Girls enter first parking lot on left and boys enter parking lot on left just before the “Road Closed” barricade.

From the WESTIf you are coming from the west, please use I-80 because Hwy 6 is under construction between Newton and Grinnell.

From the EAST on HWY 6
– Right on East Street
– Left on 10th Ave

From the SOUTH on HWY 146 (follow directions from I-80)

From the NORTH on HWY 146
Note – there is construction North of Gilman and there are marked detours
– Left on 8th Ave
– Left on East Street
– Left on 10th Ave
